Two thirds of Darien residents eligible for the COVID-19 vaccines have received at least one dose, and the town positivity rate for the coronavirus is 0.019%, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson said in her regular pandemic update message on Thursday.
In a separate Darien COVID-19 update, this one for families of students, school district Nursing Director Alicia Casucci had an important tip for parents taking their children to the Lord & Taylor vaccine site: You only need to register once, even if the people at the vaccine site tell you otherwise.

First Selectman’s Update
(From a 5:56 p.m. email)
Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a COVID-19 update for Thursday, May 20.
Another very positive week for our town. Only 1 new case has been reported in the two-week period since May 6. Darien’s two-week positivity rate has declined further to 0.019%.
There have been a total of 1,521 cases from 955 unique households. Darien Public Schools report 0 active cases. 67% of age-eligible Darien residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.
Darien will hold another vaccine clinic next Wednesday, May 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-ins are welcomed. With the significant decline in demand for vaccine, we will be evaluating when town-sponsored clinics will end. Walgreens, Griebs and CVS continue to be alternative vaccine providers in Darien. Walgreens, Griebs and the Community Health Center in Stamford at Lord & Taylor are the best resources for Pfizer vaccines for anyone 12-15 years old.
Governor Lamont has codified in Executive Order 12A that whether you are vaccinated or not, you no longer need to wear a mask outdoors. Indoors, those who are vaccinated no longer need to wear masks.
If you are unvaccinated you must continue to wear your mask indoors. Masks must be worn by everyone in healthcare facilities, facilities housing vulnerable populations, on public and private transit, correctional facilities, and childcare settings and in schools. Please be mindful that individual businesses can make their own rules so check with each establishment to understand their requirements.
Darien Town Hall will be following CDC guidance. We are operating on the honor system for those who are unvaccinated and need to continue to mask. Darien Public Schools will follow separate guidance from the State Department of Education.
The Darien Library has returned to pre-pandemic hours and has eliminated all COVID-related time restrictions and limitations on book returns. You no longer need an appointment to visit the Children’s Library. The mask mandate will continue for library patrons.
The legislature has approved a further extension of Governor Lamont’s emergency powers and executive orders to varying points between today and 7/20. Detailed guidance was issued this afternoon. More information will be provided as we determine local impacts.
You can find a vaccine provider at CT.gov/CovidVaccine or by calling 1(877)918-2224. Local vaccine providers include Grieb’s Pharmacy, Walgreens, Stamford Hospital, Yale New Haven Health, Community Health Center, CVS and certain Stop & Shop Pharmacies.
Statewide COVID-19 data can be found here and Darien-specific data here. Please visit CDC.gov for more COVID-19 information.
If you are planning to be in Darien on Memorial Day, please join us for our traditional Memorial Day Parade. After this past year’s challenges, we all need a parade!
Thank you and good evening.
