A 26-year-old man whose fingerprint was found in a vehicle stolen in Darien has been charged with first-degree larceny in connection with the theft, Darien police said.

Darien police gave this account of the matter, including accusations not proven in court:

The vehicle was stolen on Feb. 6, 2021 then found in New Haven six days later, on Feb. 12. Darien police detectives examined the vehicle for evidence, and a state laboratory report indicated that a fingerprint from the vehicle belonged to Kelvin Solares of Hamden. Police applied for and received a warrant for Solares’ arrest.

Solares, of Cumley Street in Hamden, was in state Superior Court in Stamford on March 2, where Darien police charged him with the felony. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond, and his next court date is April 18.
