Edward “Eddie” Meredith Giles, 86, of Apollo Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born on May 20, 1939, in Stamford, Eddie was the son of Dr. Newell Walton Giles and Emma Virginia (Springer) Giles. He grew up in Darien and attended St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, where he formed lifelong friendships.
He went on to graduate from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he excelled on the tennis team and developed a lifelong love of the sport.
After moving to Greensboro in 1959, Eddie led an active and community-minded life. He directed a city community center, operated the Goody Bus Company and played on several local softball teams, always known for his easygoing humor and sportsmanship.
In 1992, he relocated to Apollo Beach, Florida, where he built a joyful life with his beloved partner of more than 40 years, Rosann Webb Collins. A true lover of the water, Eddie took great pleasure in piloting his motor yacht, the Doc G II, proudly named in honor of his father, a respected ophthalmologist.
Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Elizabeth Giles; his father, Dr. Newell W. Giles; his mother, Emma Virginia Giles; and his brother, Newell W. Giles, Jr.
He is survived by his devoted partner, Rosann Webb Collins; his nephews, Peter Giles of Ridgefield and Tom Giles of Cos Cob; his niece, Jan Whittemore; and his nephews, Bartlett Whittemore and Blair Whittemore.
Eddie will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his lifelong friendships, and his love of the sea and all living creatures.
A celebration of his life will be held privately at a later date. In keeping with Eddie’s deep affection for animals-especially cats-those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to make a donation to their local pet shelter.
