Jim Cameron of Darien will speak Friday on “Metro-North: From First to Worst,” at the New Canaan Senior Mens Club, meeting at 10 a.m. in St. Mark’s Church, Oenoke Ridge.

An announcement from the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council:

How did service get so bad on Metro-North?  Is it safe to ride these trains?  When will service improve again?

These are the questions every commuter and occasional rider of Connecticut’s commuter rail has been asking in recent years.  And they will all be answered on Friday Aug. 7, when longtime commuter advocate Jim Cameron addresses the Senior Mens Club of New Canaan.

“My talk is entitled ‘Metro-North: From First to Worst’ and chronicles the rapid decline in what was once a safe and on-time railroad,” says Cameron.  “I try to explain why things went so bad so fast, what’s being done to address those problems and what the prospects are for improved service.”

Having served for 19 years on the CT Metro-North Rail Commuter Council, four of them as its Chairman, Cameron resigned in 2013 to form a new advocacy organization, The Commuter Action Group.  He is also author of the newspaper column / blog / podcast “Talking Transportation” which he has been writing for more than a decade.

A resident of Darien, Cameron is a member of that town’s Representative Town Meeting and is Program Director of TV79, Darien’s government television station.  He is also President of his own media consultancy Cameron Communications Inc., drawing on an award winning career at NBC News where he received both Peabody and Armstrong Awards for his documentary excellence.

His presentation to the Senior Mens Club of New Canaan will be at 10 am on Friday August 7th in Morrill Hall at St Mark’s Church on Oenoke Ridge in New Canaan.  For more information visit the Senior Mens Club website.
