Turner — who at 28 was winner of the first-annual Duke Ellington Center for the Arts vocal competition (2014) —has quickly made his mark in the New York City jazz scene. He regularly plays at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s late-night dance sessions, Ginny’s Supper Club, Smoke; he’s played Carnegie Hall and toured Europe and Russia. He also won the Best Jazz Vocalist contest at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Charles has collaborated with Jason Moran, Bobby McFerrin, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Terri Lyne Carrington.
