Rose Marie Panczysyn Murray, 65, of Darien, suddenly passed away Feb. 8 after a short battle with lung cancer. Her passing was unexpected, and her family and friends are deeply saddened.
Rose was born on Dec. 27, 1958, to Richard and Dorothy Panczysyn in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was one of five children, grew up in Syracuse, New York and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
In 1983, Rose married the love of her life, John Murray, in a beautiful and fun ceremony in Syracuse, New York. She and John spent a year living in Kankakee, Illinois, before moving to Connecticut. In Connecticut, they built a life together and settled in West Hartford for 20 years. More recently, over the last eight years, she lived in Darien, where summer weekends were enjoyed at the beach.
Rose was a devoted employee and held many accounting and finance positions over her career. Up until her passing, she was a member of the Turner Surety and Insurance Brokerage team, where she was a program manager.
Rose was a fun and kind soul who enjoyed traveling, cooking, knitting, and spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered for her smile, as a wonderful wife and mother, loyal friend and will be sorely missed.
Rose is survived by her son, Jay; her sisters, Janet (Amanda) Furco and Elizabeth McKinney; her in-laws: Mary Jo Gibson, Maureen Webb, Marie (Jeff) Miller, Thomas J. (Jacqueline) Murray, Richard F. Murray Jr. and Margaret (Doug) Ferguson; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John; her parents, Richard and Dorothy; her brothers, David and Paul; and brothers-in-law, Junior Allen Gibson and Jim Webb.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road, No. 3, Greenwich. Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories.
A second celebration of life event will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 West Cermak Road, Westchester, Illinois. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either: Lung Cancer Research Foundation, the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, or APK Charities, a charity for veterans.
