Kathleen Fogarty, 80, of Hale Lane, was fatally struck by her own vehicle Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of Middlesex Commons, Darien police announced.
The news release from Police Chief Donald Anderson didn’t say how that happened, but it did say that no one else and no other vehicle seems to have been involved in the incident. Fogarty was the driver, according to the news release.
Sometime before 4:26 p.m., the incident was reported to authorities. Fogarty was not alive when police and an ambulance crew arrived.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of Middlesex Commons condominium complex, which encompasses Hale Lane, a street off of Leroy Avenue, between the Darien Public Schools headquarters and Whole Foods Market.
The Police Department’s Accident Investigations Team is investigating the incident. “[T]he investigation is ongoing and involves many varied avenues of further review and investigative steps,” the announcement said.

At approximately 4:26 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2021, Darien Police Department officers and Darien EMS responded to the Middlesex Commons condominium complex on Hale Lane on the report of a motor vehicle collision reportedly involving a single vehicle. The operator was found deceased at the time of emergency services arrival. Through on-scene investigation, it was found that the vehicle operator had been struck by her own vehicle, causing fatal injuries.
This collision investigation is ongoing and is being headed by the Darien Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team. There is no evidence that any other persons or other vehicles were involved in this incident which occurred in the shared parking area of the condominium complex.
The deceased was identified as Kathleen Fogarty, age 80, who resided in the complex.
