Lois Dugdale, 91, died peacefully on Sept. 7. She was a long-time resident of Darien and Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Born Lois A. Lincoln in New London, she was the oldest daughter of Jack and Grace Lincoln. She attended Darien schools, graduating high school, Class of 1948, and then from Lasell College, formerly Lasell Junior College.
As a young girl growing up in Noroton, she loved sailing out of Noroton Yacht Club. After college Lois married Byron Jack Dugdale of Noroton Heights, owner of Dugdale’s Menswear in Stamford. Lois was an active volunteer in Girl Scouts, church and in her children’s schools. She was a member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church for many years.
For six months of each year, Lois and Byron lived at their Nantucket home. For over 30 years, they both looked forward to enjoying the spring, summer and fall seasons “on island.” Lois worked at two art galleries on Old South Wharf for many summers, loved gardening, reading and sharing her passion for the island with visiting family. She and Byron were both welcomed into the “local” community and made many new friends.
In their later years, they returned to their home in Darien. The family is deeply grateful for the volunteers from At Home in Darien and the ministry of Marion Smith, parish associate at Noroton Presbyterian Church, who visited and helped in numerous ways.
Lois is survived by her two daughters and son in-law, Mary Danskin, Anne and Ken Gordon of New Jersey, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Byron and sons, John and William. Her four sisters and one brother presently live all over the country.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9 at the chapel of Noroton Presbyterian Church.
Gifts in Lois’s memory may be made to the Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820.
