This is your chance to avoid hauling heavy junk to the town dump: Schedule a pickup of large items with the town Department of Public Works for a Tuesday or Wednesday from April 2 to June 12, the DPW has announced.
The pickup service is free for those with homes on public streets, with the exception of refrigerators, air conditioners or dehumidifiers — for each one you’ll have to buy a $15 sticker.
— an announcement from the Darien DPW
There are a number of rules and a list of items that won’t be picked up. Two important restrictions are: There won’t be any pickups on May 27 or 28, and each home can have only one large-items pickup in each calendar year (other than the town’s Christmas tree pickups).
Residents should have their debris placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the date of their scheduled pickup, and if items are not on the curb by that day at 7 a.m., they must reschedule pickup.
No pickups will be made at addresses on private streets, unless property has road frontage on a public street and material is placed along public road frontage.
