When a 37-year-old Darien man bought gas at the Shell station at 164 Noroton Ave. last Thursday, he took a bottle of window washing fluid and was confronted by an employee who told him he’d need to pay for it, Darien police said.

This description of the incident from police includes accusations not proven in court:

The customer, a resident of Darien Commons at 102 Heights Road, became argumentative and shoved a credit card in the employee’s face. The customer then headbutted the man, with the brim of the customer’s hat causing a minor injury.

When the employee tried to take a picture of the customer’s license plate, the customer grabbed the man’s phone and threw it in the trash.

Police later found the customer in front of his apartment and charged of third-degree assault and breach of peace. He was released on a written promise to appear May 4 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
