Charles J. Nizolek, a longtime resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Nov. 22. He was 92. Born July 24, 1927 in Stamford to the late Mary and Stanley Nizolek, Charlie served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park. He worked for Olivetti and Pitney Bowes, where he met his wife of 57 years, Diana, on a blind date.

William Charles Brian Peoples, 85, of Darien passed away on Nov. 27, 2019 after a battle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Brian was born on April 10, 1934 to John and Nancy Peoples on Staten Island, New York. After graduating from Staten Island Academy in 1951, he went on to study math at the University of Rochester and received an MBA in accounting from Rutgers University Business School. After graduation from college he went into the Army, then attended graduate school and then secured his first job as an accountant for Arthur Anderson, beginning his 38-year career in accounting as a CPA.

Patrick C. “Pat” Lowery, 71, of Norwalk, died at the Norwalk Hospital on Nov. 29. He was the loving husband of Christine (D’Amato) Lowery for 46 years.  Pat was born in Tarrytown, New York on Oct. 17, 1948, the son of the late Edward D. and Catherine (Curtin) Lowery. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, and was a longtime employee of BMW of Darien.

Mrs. Sally Lila Mazzeo Wynne, 87, a longtime resident of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24 with her family at her side. Sally’s children describe their Mom as patriotic, fiercely loyal and loving to her family and friends, and courageous in the face of life’s trial and tribulations. She was born Sept. 10, 1932 in Stamford to the late Salvatore and Lillian Conti Mazzeo.

Herbert A. Granath of Darien passed away peacefully on Nov. 26 in Stamford. He was 91 years old. Herb was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Brooklyn Tech High School. He studied physics at Fordham University while working nights as a page at NBC, and, with his interest in media thus sparked, went on to do graduate work at Fordham in communication arts.

Bill McDonagh of Palm Coast, Florida passed away at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida on Nov. 12. He was born and raised in Canbrack, Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Ireland and moved to the United States when he was 19. He lived in Queens, New York, Stamford and Darien before retiring to Florida. Bill worked as an engineer for Metro-North Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 2004.

Vincenzo Brunetto, 88, of Darien entered eternal rest on Nov. 25, 2019 surrounded by his loving family in his home. He was the devoted husband of 61 years to Vincenza Cernuto Brunetto. Vincenzo was born on May 28, 1931 in Solicchiata, Sicily, the son of Salvatore and Giuseppina Brunetto. In 1968, Vincenzo bravely immigrated from Sicily to the United States with his wife and children, creating a new successful life for his family.

The daughter of LeRoy A. and Christine (Johnston) LaRoche, she was born in Colonie, New York on Jan. 13, 1936. Joy graduated from Wells College in Aurora, New York with a B.A. in English literature in 1957.

Patricia “Sissy” Mary Holub of Darien passed peacefully on to her eternal home on Friday, Nov. 8. She was surrounded by her family singing her favorite hymns and prayers over her as she made her journey on to glory. She was 80. Born on February 4, 1939 in Rutland, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Mary (Accorsi) Polzello.

Alison Francis Ganzel of Greenwich recently died after a brief illness at Stamford Hospital. Born in 1935, she was the daughter of Edwin and Alice Ganzel of Darien. She spent many years at Southbury Training School before moving to Abilis, a group home in Greenwich. There, her life was filled with friends and staff who loved her. This year she was being honored by Abilis for her life as an outstanding active member of the senior program.

Karen Kolseth Cashman, 76, a resident of Stonington, died peacefully on Nov. 9, after being diagnosed with peritoneal cancer in 2018. Karen was born in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 8, 1943 and was educated at Greenwich Academy and Mount Vernon College. She grew up in a family of oil painters, then later lived in Darien from 1973 to 1986, in Lyme from 1986 to 1999, and in Roxbury from 1999 to 2014.
