“The Power and Purpose of Play,” a New Canaan CARES parent program featuring Beth O’Brien, Head of Early Childhood of New Canaan Country School, will be held at 10 a.m. on March 12 at the New Canaan Library’s Lamb Room.

Mrs. O’Brien will share the various characteristics of different types of play and the specific skills each one builds. She will also offer guidance on how to foster opportunities and promote play for children.

“Children need time to be bored, to not know what to do,” says Mrs. O’Brien. “This is the moment when creativity and agency develops. This is the moment when they look inward and decide what do I want to do, what do I want to create, how am I going to begin? They learn to trust themselves and their ideas, to tinker and test, experiment and fail, to pick up and try again.”

Come hear the latest research about which types of play build the strongest foundation, and how the play you engage your children with today will help them later in life.

The event is free of charge. For more information or to register, please visit parent programs at www.newcanaancares.org. Drop-ins are also welcome.
