Borrow ye books and stuff while ye may — Darien Library will be closed on Friday, June 14 as the parking lot is paved.

“This is the last step in the geothermal project,” the library said in an announcement. “Our outside book return will also be inaccessible. Don’t worry, no overdue fees will accrue. Thank you for your patience over the last few months!”

In an exclusive for Darienite.com, the poet Robert Herrick has written this work of art to memorialize Friday’s event:

Borrow ye library materials while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same user that’s welcomed today
On Friday will be crying.

That glorious Lamp of Heaven, the Libes,
Won’t give out vids or audiobooks,
Or books or seeds or seats or museum passes for even bribes:
You won’t get any looks.

That time is best when you can borrow,
Say on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday;
But if they’re due Friday, no cause for sorrow —
No fines accrue — hip, hip, hurray!

Then be not coy, but use your time right,
And while ye may, go borrow;
But having lost but once this site,
You may borrow on the morrow.
