If you have household hazardous waste you want to get rid of, you can drop it off in New Canaan on Saturday, Sept. 14, or in Westport on the following Saturday, Sept. 21.

Except as noted, the information below is from the New Canaan Public Works Department on that town government’s website:

Where, When, Etc.

New Canaan’s Household Household Hazardous Waste Day is Saturday, Sept. 14. You can drop off items from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the town Wastewater Plant at 394 Main St.

Westport’s drop-off event (on Saturday, Sept. 21) takes place from 9 to 2 p.m. at the Yard Waste Site at 180 Bayberry Lane. (New Canaan’s event is easier for Darien residents to get to.)

Please have drivers license or registration readily available. No commercial (business) loads accepted.

These are the three remaining household hazardous waste dropoff events of the year that Darien residents are eligible to use. There won’t be any more until late spring 2020.

What is household hazardous waste?

Household hazardous waste can be any improperly discarded product that can be classified as toxic (poisonous), corrosive, flammable or reactive (explosive). Such products can be found in most homes, garages or workshops and when improperly disposed of can poison people and animals and pollute the home and natural environments.
