You’ve had a DNA test and now you have a list of genetic relatives. How do you find out who they are and how they are related?

A professional genealogist will talk on “DNA 201 for Genealogy — Segments, Centimorgans and SNPs” from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1 in the Community Room at Darien Library.

An informal social hour for those interested in genealogy will take place from 1 to 2 p.m.

Nora Galvin is a well-known speaker and her topic will be about interpreting results from DNA test kits.

Millions of people have taken DNA tests to learn about their personal heritage and to find new branches of their family tree. Those results, written in technical jargon like CentiMorgans and Segments, can be overwhelming to understand.  Nora will break it all down, make it understandable.

Darien Library is co-sponsoring the event with the Middlesex Genealogical Society.

Come learn the best practices for getting the most out of your testing dollars.

Think of the most important question or issue that you have about your genealogy. It may be a brick wall that you are facing with one of your ancestors, a question of wanting to know where to find a particular resource, or a success that you are dying to share with the rest of us.

Book Exchange

You’re invited to bring in genealogy books and periodicals that you are no longer using and make them available to people who can make use of them.
