The importance of aging-in-place organizations for communities will be the subject of a talk by Michael Ego, Ph.D., a University of Connecticut professor of human development and family studies, at the annual meeting of At Home In Darien on Dec. 6.

The annual meeting takes place at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Darien Library Community Room, 1440 Post Road. Refreshments will be served. Free transportation to and from the event is available for seniors. To arrange a ride, please call 203.655.2227.

Dr. Ego has been a tenured professor of human development and family studies and Asian and Asian American studies at the University of Connecticut (both undergraduate and graduate) since 2005. His current research is focused on people with dementia and their quality of life.

He served as the associate vice-provost and director of the UConn Stamford Campus from 2005 to 2010. Prior to coming to UConn, he served as Dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts at San Jose State University and was the consortium chair for the NIH-funded Stanford University Geriatric Education Center.

Dr. Ego has gained recognition for his expertise in the field of ethnicity and aging, retirement adaptation, and Asian/Pacific American families, sports and dementia. He previously served as an assistant area representative for AARP.

At Home In Darien is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization whose mission is to help Darien seniors live independently, comfortably and with dignity in their own homes and the community as long as possible.
