Enjoy some great wine and great food at a wine tasting event from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday for a great cause — raising funds to help Ethiopians get clean water.

The fundraising event, organized by Turning Wine into Water, a nonprofit started by the owners and managers of Nicholas Roberts Fine Wines in Darien, is hosted by David’s Sound Catering.

Turning Wine into Water will host its 3rd Annual (Pre) Spring Wine Tasting on Saturday, March 12. This year’s event will be held at The Landing at 232 Harbor Drive, Stamford.

This event is one of their primary fundraisers of the year and sponsors a new initiative undertaken by Turning Wine Into Water in conjunction with Catholic Relief Services (CRS). The event is sponsored and produced by both Nicholas Roberts and David’s Soundview Catering.

As in previous events, the event will feature two rooms. The Non-Vintage Room will offer guests the opportunity to taste wine, spirits and craft beers from the portfolios of Skurnik Wine & Spirits, 55 Degrees, Jackson Family Wines, Worldwide Wines, Connecticut Distributors, Winebow, Fine Terroir and Craft Beer Guild.

In the Vintage Room, guests will have the opportunity to taste a selection of rare and limited release wines from the collections of Spire, Winebow, Domaine Select Wines and Dendor Wine Company
.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided by David’s Soundview Catering.

In just 10 years, with just a small but dedicated Board of Directors, Turning Wine Into Water has accomplished the following:


• 2005: Funded building of well frame to pump clean water to approximately 5000 people in a remote area of Zambia – $15,000
• 2006-2010: Funded building of well frames to pump clean water for the 20000 residents of Mekunga District of Zambia – $45,000
• 2010-2013: Funded building of water, hygiene and sanitation facilities (WASH) for village in southern Ethiopia and a mountainous region in northern Ethiopia – $110,000
• 2014-2016: Currently funding a complete water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) program In Beliti, Ethiopia – a remote section of southern area where nearly 20,000 of the poorest of the poor have never had access to clean water – overall project cost $200,000
• 2015: Raised $32,000 to complete Beliti project

The situation in Ethiopia is dire this year. We will announce our plan to help these suffering people at our March 12 event.
