“We have signed the lease on our unbeatable space,” the business announced recently on Facebook. In another post: “We’ve been searching all over to find the perfect spot for our studio. When we walked into 800 Post Road in Darien, we knew we had found our home.

In one Darien Chamber of Commerce event coming up March 22, Darien business people can (1) get advice on improving their LinkedIn profile from LucidPointe experts; (2) get a new headshot to use on LinkedIn, taken by nationally known professional photographer Kristen Jensen; and before that, (3) try on some clothes at Darien Sport Shop for the photo; but not only that, also (4) get hair and makeup touched up by Williams & Co. and Fredric and Company; and to go along with that, (5) “Enjoy delicious breakfast foods, coffee or tea from Amanda Smith Caterers.”

“Get it all at this breakfast networking event — make new contacts, see Chamber friends,” the chamber says on its website. “Sign up required in advance for headshot and is a separate charge from the event fee.” This event is open to non-members, but it’s less expensive for members.

Curtain Call Dancing With the Stars 2-14-16Curtain Call theater in Stamford has picked these Darien business people to dance at its May 14 “Dancing with the Stars” event, a fundraiser for the Stamford theater:

  • Megan Palmer Rivera, culinary director at Palmer’s Market, (her professional dance partner will be Nahun Alba of  Arthur Murray Grande Ballroom of Greenwich).
  • Valerie DeVito, owner and stylist at Aval Hair Salon at 408 Post Road (she’ll be dancing with Ricardo Sopin, also of Arthur Murray in Greenwich).
Not an X-box

This is not an Xbox. This is a birthday cake from Palmer’s Bakery at Palmer’s Market (from Palmer’s Bakery on Facebook).

Rivera and DeVito, along with nine other business people in the Stamford area “have volunteered to spend the next few months in preparation for the May 14 event at the Palace Stamford, all in an effort to raise money for Curtain Call,” according to the Hey Stamford website.

“With state arts funding having been drastically cut this year, Curtain Call needs this event to help keep ticket prices down. The night will also include performances from current Curtain Call productions.”

Customer Tony Pirquet is the latest winner: “For every 15 Uncle’s bucks you redeem you get a free sandwich and a chance to win free lunch for month! You also get your picture taken and hung on the wall at Uncle’s!”

All in the family: Darien has Mama Carmela’s almost next door to Papa Joe’s Ristorante, which is down the road from Uncle’s Deli and there’s also an Auntie Anne’s pretzel place at the Darien South rest stop on I-95. Not to mention Brooks Brothers downtown. We don’t have a business in town with “Sisters” in the name (that we could find), although the Sisters of St. Brigita does have a convent in Darien (where you can hold a private retreat or rent a room overnight). For Cousin’s, you’ll have to go to Norwalk. Or Port Chester. As far as we could tell, Grandma, Grandpa, Niece and Nephew haven’t yet opened up shop in town, either, but give ’em time.
