A tree and power lines fell on the roof of a West Avenue house during the windy, nighttime storm last Wednesday, police said. The storm caused power outages in Darien and across the state.

After receiving a call at 10:54 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, Darien police arrived to find a large part of a tree resting on the house at 400 West Ave. Wires torn from a utility pole were on the street.

Residents of the home had already left. Traffic was rerouted to Holmes Avenue and Abbey Road, police said.

At 2:30 a.m., after Eversource responded to the scene, the roadway was again opened for traffic.

More than 600 customers in Darien lost power during the storm overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. Power was restored at various times from then to midday Friday.
