Water filters for pitchers, faucets or refrigerators are plastic and look like they belong in single stream recycling, but because of the filtering materials they contain, they do not. Always check with the manufacturer to see if they have a take-back program, but if they do not, put them them in the trash. ___________

Seventy-eight. That’s the number of old smoke alarms sent off for recycling since the collection bin was established in March of this year. Smoke alarms contain minute amounts of radioactivity and should not be thrown in household trash or put in with single stream recycling. Look for this bright yellow collection bin in the transfer station building! ___________
