As part of a school-wide service project, Ox Ridge Elementary School students collected food items to support those in need. Teacher Jenny Trifiatis led the kindergarten team in organizing the annual food drive event aimed at supporting the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. The mission’s focus is to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, support, and job training for the urban poor and addicted in coastal Fairfield County. Each grade level was challenged to collect 100 items of food to donate to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. Students helped load the items recently for use in the mission’s pantry and mobile kitchens.

Ox Ridge students got up close and personal with some furry, slithery, and high-flying friends as part of a school-wide assembly this month. Darien resident Chris Evers of Animal Embassy brought an assortment of animals to interact with staff and students. According to Animal Embassy’s website, their mission is to foster “an individual’s appreciation and respect for the natural world and the incredible diversity of life on Earth.”

For the Ox Ridge assembly, Evers brought along snakes, amphibians, chinchillas, and an owl — the Ox Ridge mascot. During the assembly, students were entertained and participated in hands-on opportunities. ____________
