How Our Yards and Gardens are Essential Parts of the Ecosystems Around Us

In anticipation of spring, The New Canaan Garden Club and the New Canaan Beautification League are pleased to welcome renowned professor and author Doug Tallamy to speak on “Restoring Nature’s Relationships at Home,” March 8 at New Canaan Library. The public is invited to attend free of charge with coffee served at 9:30 a.m. and the program beginning at 10 a.m. in the Lamb Room at the library. Tallamy’s talk will focus on how our yards and gardens are essential parts of the ecosystems that sustain us, and what we can do to use our residential landscapes to connect the isolated habitat fragments around us. Much of his research has focused on understanding the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. Doug Tallamy is a professor of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware where has authored 85 research publications.

How to Digitize Old Photos: Workshop

Old family photos can be the key to preserving – or discovering – your family’s history, but they must be taken care of properly. In this workshop, our librarians will demonstrate how to digitize your old family photos and store the digital files.  

They will also cover the digital restoration of photos; correcting fading, discoloration, and other issues. Participants are encouraged to bring a photo to work with during the workshop. Please register for this event.
