Police: Woman, 22, with Pot and Drugs, Drove Uninsured Car Missing License Plate

When Darien police stopped a 22-year-old driver because she had no front license plate on her car, they found the car was uninsured, her driver’s license was suspended, and she had marijuana and pills with her that she said was “ecstasy,” according to police. Police gave this further account of the incident, including accusations not proven in court:

At 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, a police officer saw a 2005 brown Nissan Altima being driven on West Avenue. When the car was stopped, the officer smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police dog Kenny was brought to the traffic stop and indicated narcotics were in the car.

Police: Darien Boy, 16, Caught with Marijuana at Woodland Park After 10 PM

Allowed to use his family’s black SUV last Wednesday night, a 16-year-old Darien boy used it to take marijuana to Woodland Park, police said. Darien police gave this account of what happened, including accusations that might be used if the boy is charged with a crime (although he wasn’t as of Monday morning):

A police officer on patrol came by at 10:26 p.m. and noticed the SUV in the park after hours. The officer pulled into the parking lot off of Middlesex Road to tell the person in the vehicle to leave the park, which closes at dusk. When the officer approached, the boy left the SUV from the driver’s side door and ran off into the woods. The officer approached the vehicle to see if there was anyone else inside.

Police: After Cop Spots Possible No Seatbelt Use, Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges

It began, police said,  with an officer noticing that a car passenger appeared not to be wearing a seatbelt, it got worse after police stopped the car and found more violations of the law. Eventually the passenger was arrested on drug possession charges, the driver with vehicle-related charges (no one was charged with not wearing a seat belt). Darien police gave this description of what happened with the following account, including accusations not proven in court:

A police officer first noticed what seemed to be the lack of seatbelt use at about 12:18 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 as a gray 2001 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling east on the Post Road, near Thorndal Circle. A routine check of the North Carolina license plate on the car showed that the plate actually belonged to a 1991 Ford Mustang. The police officer pulled up behind the Blazer, which quickly turned into the gas station at 1358 Post Road.

When police stopped to check on the well-being of the driver of a car stopped by the side of the road with hazard lights flashing one recent afternoon, they smelled marijuana, then the driver gave them a false name, police said. Darien police gave this account of the incident:

At 3:44 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, police saw the car stopped by the side of Brookside Road near Buttonwood Lane. The man told a police officer his “battery light” went on and his car “just died.” While talking with the driver, the officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked for his driver’s license, the man said he didn’t have it with him.

According to police, an officer saw the first sign of trouble when she noticed the 2003 Jaguar headed west on the Post Road was missing a front license plate; the second was when the back license plate was found to be registered to a Toyota Camry. The third, police said, was when she had the car pull over, then smelled the strong odor of marijuana as she walked toward it. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At about 12:03 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, the officer conducted a motor vehicle stop, making contact with the driver, who had been heading west on the Post Road near Exit 13. The driver of the 2003 X-Type Jaguar, a 19-year-old Norwalk man, told the officer that he didn’t have a driver’s license and had just bought the car, which he said was neither registered nor insured. He said he borrowed the license plate from a friend so he could drive the car.

A 22-year-old driver stopped by a police officer for not having a front license plate was found with marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an illegal 10-inch hunting knife, Darien police said. Police gave this description of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

At about 6:14 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, a police officer on patrol saw a white 2015 Honda Civic without a front license plate and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Old Kings Highway North and Brookside Road. The driver, a Bridgeport resident, said the license plate had fallen off and he hadn’t replaced it yet. When talking with him, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and asked the driver whether he had it in the car. The driver gave the officer a small bottle with marijuana in it, along with a smoking device.

Several marijuana cigarettes, a little cocaine, driving a pickup truck with expired registration  and a cracked windshield but without insurance — all those violations of the law were enough for a driver, 29 (whose license was suspended) to get his truck towed and take a trip to the police station, according to Darien police. Police gave this account of how it happened, including accusations of crimes not proven in court:

At 5:47 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, a police officer noticed that the windshield was cracked on a red pickup traveling west on the Post road near Richmond Drive. A records check showed the 2000 model Dodge Ram wasn’t registered. SIDEBAR:

Police: Driver Caught With Marijuana in Car on Hoyt Street

An 22-year-old driver seen crossing the double-yellow line on Hoyt Street was caught with marijuana after being stopped by police. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At 12:57 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, an officer on patrol was traveling north on Hoyt Street near Camp Avenue. A vehicle in front of him crossed the double-yellow dividing line twice. The officer stopped the vehicle. The driver, a resident of Mulberry Street in the Springdale section of Stamford, said he was driving home from work and didn’t realize that he crossed the dividing lines.

Twice last week in otherwise unrelated incidents, Darien police stopped cars driving on town streets on suspicion of motor vehicle violations and found there were arrest warrants for the drivers. Darien police described each incident with these accounts (including accusations not proven in court):
Wednesday, April 12: Post Road & Brookside Road
At about 3:51 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, a police officer saw a green, 1993 Lexus ES without a front license plate traveling on the Post Road near Brookside Road. The officer stopped the car, and when speaking with the driver, smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. There were several marijuana blunts (hollowed out cigars with marijuana in them) in the center console. The officer also found that there was an arrest warrant issued for the driver, a 38-year-old Bridgeport man, on a charge made by Bridgeport police of violation of probation.

An 18-year-old man in an SUV parked at Royle School at night on Monday, April 10, was found with marijuana and pot-related drug paraphernalia, Darien police said. Police described the incident with this account (including accusations not proven in court):

After a police saw a 2007 Ford Edge driving in the area of Mansfield Avenue and Royle Road, a police officer at 9:40 p.m. again saw the SUV. This time it was backed into a corner spot in the school parking lot. When the teenage driver, a Stamford resident, saw the patrol car, he started to drive out of the parking lot, but police stopped the vehicle. Police officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming out of the SUV, and the driver admitted there was marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside, and he gave police his consent to search for it.

After someone reported seeing a man acting suspiciously on the playground at Cherry Lawn Park at about 11 a.m., Monday, April 3, police went to the park and saw  a 25-year-old Bronx, N.Y. man leaving in a 2005 gray Ford Focus. Since the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, police pulled over the car. After it stopped, police smelled marijuana and found a marijuana cigarette on the center console. The man said he was in the playground but not near any children. He wasn’t able to show police his insurance card.

Police on Monday night cited three Darien teens for minor drug violations after finding them smoking pot at Talmadge Hill Railroad Station. At about 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 2, an officer on patrol there spotted the trio standing outside a vehicle parked at the station’s lot, according to a police report. ____________
