Darien police are looking for the male in this picture. Police say he was caught on camera stealing a package from the porch of a home on Hollow Tree Ridge Road, “closer to the Post Road,” at about 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1. Stealing packages from porches has been called “porch pirating,” police noted in a Facebook post about the incident (and if you google “porch pirate,” you’ll get 12.8 million hits, as opposed to, say, “box bandit,” which gets you less than 9,000 hits). Police released not only a picture of the suspected pilfering porch pirate, but the getaway car he used.

A watch valued at $11,084 was reported missing from a dresser drawer in a home on Midbrook Lane. The victim and his family had been away for a weeklong trip recently while the home was for sale and potential buyers were shown through it, police were told. The family was away from March 14 to 20, but the victim didn’t notice the watch was missing — along with a second watch of negligible value — until just before notifying police on Thursday, April 5. There was no evidence of a burglary at the house. Both watches had been in the dresser drawer.

Sometime between November 2017 and last week, several pieces of jewelry valued at $4,400 went missing from a nightstand in a home on Crane Road in the Long Neck section of town. A complainant went to police at 10:39 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 25 to report the missing jewelry. Because of the long period between when the jewelry was last seen and when the owner realized it was missing, the complainant couldn’t identify any suspects to police, who are continuing to investigate.
