Update, Sunday, 6 p.m.:

Here’s what the “Artists at Grove Street Plaza” event was like:

Original article, Saturday, 1 p.m.:

Until 6 p.m., you can do something different for a Saturday afternoon in Darien: Visit the “Artists at Grove Street Plaza” where local artists with paintings and photos of Darien scenes are available along with crepes, fondue and soup at the outdoor event. On one side of the plaza, The Melting Pot has free fondue samples (milk chocolate and dark chocolate), on the other, NEAT coffeehouse has an outdoor table with free samples of a pumpkin soup that needs to be tasted to be believed. In between, there’s music and enough artwork to stock several exhibits (and many of these artists are between exhibits — one has one going on now at Darien Library). Entry is free. Money raised by the sale of coffee mugs or other items helps the Darien Arts Center.

An announcement from organizers of the “La Place des Artistes” event:

Twenty local artists will celebrate the open-air spirit of Montmartre in an all-day outdoor exhibit at Grove Street Plaza on Saturday Sept. 26. The event, “Artists at Grove Street Plaza,” will feature framed canvases, prints, photographs and ceramics. Some of the painters will work at their easels from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Darien Arts Center (DAC), and the rain date is October 3rd. “For one autumn day, we hope to bring Paris to Darien,” explained Nobu Miki, the Darien modern folk artist who conceived and organized the day.

An announcement from organizers of the “La Place des Artistes” event:

On Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Grove Street Plaza in Darien will transform into La Place des Artistes, a Montmartre, Paris-styled free outdoor art event where visitors can enjoy art and interact with local talented artists while supporting the Darien Arts Center. Over 20 local artists will display and sell their work with a percentage of the proceeds benefitting the DAC. Entertainment will include DAC musicians, dancers and a DAC art teacher who will demonstrate painting techniques on site. Food vendors and carts will provide French themed cuisine such as crepes and pastries.
