The late-afternoon reports Thursday from weather forecasters are much more hopeful for Connecticut than they were at 2 p.m. Thursday, when this announcement was issued — but forecasts can always change, and even a hurricane that doesn’t come to shore can cause trouble. Here’s First Selectman Jayme Stevenson’s announcement this afternoon about the town’s efforts to brace for the hurricane:

An announcement from First Selectman Jayme Stevenson about Hurricane Joaquin:

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson, on behalf of the Town of Darien Emergency Management Team, issued the following update on preparations for Hurricane Joaquin:

The Town of Darien Emergency Management Team, along with our State and Regional partners, are monitoring the progress of Hurricane Joaquin. As of 2 p.m., Joaquin was a Category 4 hurricane located near the central Bahamas. The track and intensity of this storm is changeable but current predictions are for the storm to impact our area sometime between Monday evening into Tuesday. High tide is expected Monday evening between 6 and 7 p.m. and may further intensify the impact of the storm.
