Interstate 95 Lane Closures for Various Projects in and Near Darien from Monday to Friday

One of the lanes on Exit 11 from the northbound-traffic side of Interstate 95 will be closed sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced. The lane closure is one of several in the area happening next week on and around I-95 in and around Darien for bridge inspections and maintenance, according to the announcement. Here are the others:

Westport — Monday through Thursday: Alternating right and left lane closures on I-95, on both northbound-traffic and southbound-traffic sides, between Exits 18 and 19 (on Monday and Tuesday) and between Exits 17 and 18 (Wednesday and Thursday). All work is scheduled to be done sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each day.

It’s a late night in late September and you’re late. You figure you’ll hurry on the highway through Norwalk. At least you’ve missed rush-hours traffic, you think. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! You can’t get there from here, at least not without facing a lane closure on either the Merritt Parkway or Interstate 95, with projects on both highways starting this coming Monday, Sept.

Nighttime Work on Interstate 95 From Darien to Greenwich, Tuesday to Thursday, Sept 4 to 6

Lanes will be closed at spots in Greenwich, Stamford and Darien on Interstate 95 for three nights this week, Tuesday through Thursday, for bridge inspections and maintenance work, the state Department of Transportation announced. Daytime work on the highway is also scheduled for stretches in Greenwich and Norwalk this week. The work starts at 11 p.m. each night and is scheduled to conclude at 6 a.m. the next morning, starting Tuesday, Sept. 4 and ending early Friday morning. In Darien, the work will be on stretches of the highway from Stamford to Exit 12, the announcement said.

Nighttime Merritt Parkway Paving/Safety Project to Resume Monday, Aug 6 in Stamford, New Canaan

A nighttime paving and safety-improvement project is scheduled to restart on the Merritt Parkway on Monday, Aug. 6 from the Greenwich-Stamford border near Exit 31 to Exit 37 in New Canaan (just north of where Mansfield Avenue becomes New Canaan’s South Avenue). The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced the resumption of the project, which had originally started in August 2013. It consists of 6.5 miles of roadway resurfacing, safety improvements, and landscaping enhancements.  The work also includes rehabilitation of five historic bridges over Route 15. The department announcement doesn’t say so, but lane closures are inevitable with repaving work.

Lane Closures on Merritt Parkway in Stamford (Monday) and New Canaan (Tuesday, Wednesday)

Alternating right and left lane closures will face drivers on the Merritt Parkway driving in either direction early this week in Stamford or New Canaan, the state Department of Transportation has announced. Bridge inspections are the reason, according to the Thursday, July 27 announcement. Lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at these days and locations on the Merritt, U.S. Route 15:

Monday in Stamford between Exit 33 (Den Road) and Exit 34 (Long Ridge Road)
Tuesday and Wednesday in New Canaan between Exit 36 (Old Stamford Road, near Talmadge Hill Railroad Station) and Exit 37 (South Avenue, which becomes Mansfield Avenue in Darien)

Lane Closures on Merritt Parkway in New Canaan, Norwalk and Westport This Week

Bridge inspection work will result in lane closures on the Merritt Parkway between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in New Canaan on Monday and Tuesday and in Norwalk and Westport on Tuesday through Thursday, the Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced. One of the two lanes on each side of the highway, for both northbound and southbound traffic will be closed at various times between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. On Monday and Tuesday, alternating right and left lane closures will take place on the highway, also known as Route 15 between Exits 37 (Route 124 in New Canaan, just north of Mansfield Avenue) and Exit 38 in Norwalk (New Canaan Avenue, Route 123 in Silvermine). On Wednesday and Thursday, alternating right and left lane closures will take place from Exit 40 in Norwalk (Main Avenue, the old Route 7) and Exit 41 in Westport (Wilton Road, Route 33).

From Sunday, July 1 through Nov. 15, if you drive at night on Interstate 95 in Greenwich or as far east as Exit 7 in Stamford, you may find a lane closed for “pavement condition evaluation and roadway inspections,” the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced. And some shoulders will be closed at various times during the day and night. The nighttime lane closures won’t take place every night, but they’ll continue through Nov. 15, ConnDOT said in the Thursday announcement.

Four-Month, Nighttime Project Along Merritt Parkway in Greenwich to Result in Closed Lanes

Somewhere on the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich, lanes are being closed for a project to reduce slipping by vehicles on the highway, the state Department of Transportation says. The project is expected to last until Oct. 24, about four months away. The good news is that the lanes will only be closed at night. Lane closures are only expected to occur overnight: between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the southbound-traffic lanes and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the northbound side.

This week you can expect a slower Interstate 95, with lane closures at certain areas in and near Darien, and on Tuesday on the Merritt Parkway in New Canaan, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The bridge maintenance and inspection work won’t take place during the heaviest traffic of rush hour, or in the early evening, but the daytime work will stretch from Greenwich to Darien, and the nighttime work will be from Greenwich through to Stratford, with multiple bridges getting work done for the entire month. On I-95 in Darien, Stamford and Greenwich, some lanes in both directions will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 4 to 7. At night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through July 3, Mondays through Thursdays, on I-95 from Greenwich all the way to Stratford and in both directions, various bridges will get maintenance work, and lanes will be closed, slowing traffic, according to a separate announcement by the department. (The department did not announce any nighttime work on the Merritt Parkway overnight, at least not this week.)

One nighttime bridge project on the highway will be in Norwalk between Exit 16 and 17, according to a third announcement from the department.

Nighttime Lane Closures on Merritt Parkway in Norwalk From Now to 2019 for Bridge Project

Lane closures could take place on the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk overnight starting as early as 7 or 8 p.m. in a project already begun to demolish and replace the West Rocks Road Bridge over the parkway. Work started April 25 and could go on for more than a year. Lanes will be closed on the Merritt Parkway southbound and northbound between Interchanges 40 and 41 in order to re-stripe for stage construction. — an announcement from the state Department of Transportation

The contractor is permitted to close one lane of the parkway from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Route 15 northbound and from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Route 15 southbound.  The allowable lane closure hours vary depending on the weeknight traffic volumes. The project was awarded to New England Road, Inc. at a cost of $4,117,827 on Dec.

Lane Closures on Route 7 Highway in Norwalk, Monday to Thursday

If you travel on the “Super 7” highway part of Route 7, just off of Interstate 95, you may find lane closures from Monday to Thursday, the Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced. The closures will all take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., between Exits 1 and 2. The lane closures will take place on both northbound-traffic and southbound-traffic sides of the highway, and are taking place because of bridge inspections.
