Man, 24, Charged with Motor Vehicle Violations, Fails to Appear in Court, Gets Arrested, Gets Mug Shot Published

Charged with failing to appear in court at least twice for charges of motor vehicle violations, a 24-year-old Norwalk man was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 11. For those alleged crimes, police sent out his mug shot in a release to local news organizations, some of which published it. Police did not specify what the man was originally charged with, nor did the news accounts that published his name and his arrest photo. Darien police gave this description of what happened, including accusations not proven in court (and we’ve added information from the Judicial Branch website):

He was a passenger in a car stopped by a Darien police officer at 12:27 p.m. at the entrance to Interstate 95 southbound traffic lanes at Exit 11.

When police stopped a gray Honda Accord on West Avenue at about 12:30 Wednesday morning, Nov. 21, they determined the driver was intoxicated with alcohol, and his passenger, also intoxicated, had marijuana and traces of cocaine in his backpack, police said. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

As the 19-year-old driver traveled east on West Avenue, the police officer saw the car cross the center dividing lines on the road several times. The officer stopped the vehicle at 12:31 near the intersection of West Avenue and Edgerton Street. When speaking to the driver, the officer smelled an alcoholic beverage.

A motor vehicle stop on Monday, Sept. 10, led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court in connection with an arrest in Norwalk on a fifth-degree larceny charge, Darien police said. Police gave this further account, including accusations not proven in court:

Renzo Mendoza of New Canaan Avenue in Norwalk was driving east on Maple Street at 9:37 a.m., when a police officer saw him pass under a red traffic light at the road’s intersection with Noroton Avenue. The officer stopped Mendoza’s vehicle. Police gave the location of the stop as 25 Hecker Ave.

A Brooklyn, NY man, now 43, had been dodging his required appearances in state Superior Court in Stamford for more than 18 years since his arrest on a driving-while-intoxicated charge in Darien, police said. But that dodging ended on Monday, Aug. 13, when the man turned himself in to Darien police, posted the $2,000 bond and was told to appear Aug. 23 in court. Sergey Pisarevsky of West 5th St.

Police: Stamford Man Rearrested After Skipping Court on a 1997 DUI Arrest in Darien

More than 21 years after he was arrested on a charge of driving while under the influence, then didn’t go to court, Martin Ramirez, 47, of Stamford has been rearrested, police said. Darien police said they were informed by police in Greenwich on Tuesday, July 31 that Ramirez was in their custody and that there was an active bench warrant charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court on the March 20, 1997 Darien DUI charge. Darien police then went to Greenwich and took custody of Ramirez, arresting and holding him when he couldn’t post the $500 bond. Ramirez, who lives on Rose Park Avenue in Stamford, was taken to state Superior Court in Stamford the next morning. The court files in his case have been sealed, and he is scheduled to be in court again on Sept.

Man, 50, Charged With Failure to Appear in Court for 24 Years After DUI Arrest at Age 26

On July 12, 1994, a man now living in North Carolina, then aged 26, was driving while intoxicated in Darien and got arrested for it, police allege. He didn’t show up for court at some point, police say, and his rearrest was ordered on Sept. 7, 1994, according to state court records. On Tuesday, June 12, Stamford police informed police in Darien that the man was in custody, and they asked whether Darien police would arrest him. Darien police did. The man is now 50, almost double the age he was then.

Police: Darien Man, 28, Charged Fourth Time with Driving Without License an Unregistered Car

For the fourth time in the past few years, a 28-year-old Darien man has been arrested on charges he was driving with a suspended driver’s license and in an unregistered vehicle. In the last three cases, he failed to appear in court, according to police and state Judicial Branch records. Darien police described what happened this way, including accusations not proven in court:

At 5:39 p.m., Sunday, a police officer on patrol saw a black 2009 Mercedes Benz without a front license plate being driven south on Fairfield Avenue. It was being driven south until it came closer to the patrol car, when the driver made an abrupt U-turn. The officer stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Fairfield and West avenues.

When a 27-year-old man was stopped while driving on the Post Road near the southbound-lanes enterance to Interstate 95, Exit 13, the police officer found the man was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court, so the man was arrested, police said. Police gave this further account of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

The driver, a Stamford resident, was stopped at 1:07 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18 because the officer thought the tint on the windows of the man’s vehicle appeared to be so dark they violated state law. No charges, however, were filed for that. The man was arrested and taken to Darien Police Headquarters, then released on the court-set bond of $2,500. He is scheduled to appear April 27 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A 22-year-old man wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court on a minor larceny charge was brought to the attention of police when the driver of a car he was in kept hitting a window in a parking lot downtown, according to police. When officers were called to the scene, they arrested him and found an ecstasy pill on him, police said. At 10:10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, Shawn Osorio of Flax Hill Road in Norwalk was a passenger in a silver Hyundai parked at Dunkin Donuts, near Darien Railroad Station.
