Police say a bicycle rider who was struck by a car was able to take a picture of the car’s license plate, leading to charges against the driver. It’s the second recent report of a Darien victim getting a picture of a license plate that led to charges against someone else. In the previous case, a woman’s picture led to the arrest of two men on burglary charges. Police gave this description of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

The cyclist later told police he stopped on the sidewalk to wait until it was safe to cross West Norwalk Road. A vehicle on that street stopped at the stop sign and waved the cyclist across, so he began crossing the street.

A newspaper delivery driver whose driver’s license was suspended struck a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house on West Avenue last September, and on Sunday he was arrested on a warrant, police said. Darien police gave these further details, including accusations not proven in court:

When police investigated the accident, they found out that the driver, Manuel Condo-Rocano, 39, knew he had struck the parked car but failed to report the matter or contact police. Police applied for an arrest warrant, which was granted, and on Sunday Stamford police informed Darien that they had Condo-Rocano in custody. Condo-Rocano, a resident of Myrtle Avenue in Stamford, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and evading responsibility. He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear April 12 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
