Americares is airlifting more than $3 million in essential medicines for hospitals and health centers in Puerto Rico and Dominica running critically low on supplies after Hurricane Maria. The health-focused relief and development organization is supplying seven tons of medicine, including antibiotics, wound-care supplies, intravenous fluids, mental health medications and chronic disease treatments in response to urgent requests from health officials in Puerto Rico and Dominica. _______

Editor’s note: This is an announcement from Americares. Its headquarters, with a warehouse, is about half a mile from Darien, and from that headquarters its arranging what appears to be effective relief for the ongoing catastrophe in Puerto Rico and elsewhere. Here’s the transcript of a recent National Public Radio segment featuring Tom Cotter of Americares.
