Mike Wheeler has served on the Darien TV79 Advisory Board for over a decade, the last four years as its chairman. He has been a tireless advocate for ever-expanded programming, bringing the station’s coverage of town meetings to Facebook and YouTube. His extensive technical knowledge and calm demeanor have helped TV79 achieve its most extensive coverage since its founding in 2007.

Darien TV79, the town’s CSPAN-like local government access channel that provides video gavel-to-gavel coverage of town government board meetings as well as interview programs and coverage of local meetings and events, wants a few minutes of your time. The organization is asking viewers and town residents to fill out the survey online. Here’s the announcement, from a recent email:

Dear viewers… We want to serve you better, bringing Town government to you in your homes and on your mobile devices. Can you please take 3 minutes to answer these 9 questions in our Viewer Survey to tell us more about what you want?

You’re invited to help Darien’s TV79 to broadcast meetings of Town government. Our programming is “gavel to gavel,” without editing or commentary. Like C-SPAN and CT-N, TV79 runs coverage that is unbiased and unedited. Don’t know much about running a video camera? No problem!

Darien TV79 is now offering live-streaming video on the internet, so when it covers a meeting or event in town, you can see it not only on Cablevision’s Channel 79 but on your tablet, mobile phone or computer. Here’s the announcement from TV79:

Darien’s town government television station, TV79, is now available on the internet. After almost a decade of broadcasting Town boards and commission meetings on Cablevision’s Channel 79, the introduction of “live streaming” means that TV79 has gone from local audience to an international one. “We used to be available only on Cablevision and only to subscribers in Darien,” says TV79 General Manager and founder, David Dever. “But now anybody can watch our programming on any device — computer, tablet or smart-phone — and see the same stream of programming as on our cable TV channel.”

In addition, all TV79 programs are archived on its Vimeo channel, for on-demand viewing online.
