It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Rollin “Rollie” Hall Teare. He passed away peacefully on March 6 in Naples, Fl. He was 88. Rollie was raised in Bay Village, Ohio, and attended Bay Village Ohio High School & Worcester Academy in Mass. In 1951, Rollie received bachelor of science degree with honors at Cornell University. While at Cornell, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in active duty as an officer and subsequently remained in the reserves until 1960.

Judith Jones Hanley, of Darien, passed away peacefully in Darien on Tuesday April 11. She was 87. Born on July 12, 1929 in New York, Judy was the daughter of the late Griffith and Dorathea Jones. Judy graduated from Stamford High School and attended Shorts Secretarial School in Stamford. Judy worked as a legal secretary in Darien until she was 83 years young. She was very dedicated to her two children and always volunteered at their schools.

William Tolson (Bill) Kelly died peacefully at home on April 2 in Phoenix. Bill was 86. Born in Bronxville, N.Y. and raised in Scarsdale, N.Y., he went to junior high school in Darien. He then attended prep school in Andover, Mass., graduating in 1947, moving on to Yale University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in industrial administration. During that time, he was a stage manager and president of the Yale “Dramat” Dramatic Association.

Cleopatra Boyd died on March 31 at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family following a brief illness. She was 86. She was born on April 16, 1930 to Maud and Jessie Alexander in Reagan, Texas. She graduated the valedictorian of her high school class at Reagan ISD before moving to San Antonio, Texas. Cleo, as she was affectionately known, was joined in holy matrimony to Henry Boyd, who preceded her in death in 2003.

Lucia Elodia Kuesel (“Ellie”), a former Darien resident, died Tuesday, March 28. Mrs. Kuesel was born in Brooklyn on May 1, 1928, daughter of Howard L. Fisher of Brooklyn and Elodia Baldwin Fisher originally of Cuthbert, Georgia. She graduated from Manhasset High School on Long Island in 1946, Southern Seminary Junior College in Virginia in 1948 and Duke University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. At Southern Sem she was an active equestrian jumper and at Duke she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. After graduation, she worked in several jobs in New York City, notably with the Ogilvy, Benson & Mather advertising agency as one of its initial employees.

James Oliver Leet passed away on March 30. he was 94. Born on July 29, 1922 in Ramsey County, N.D to Louis and Carrie Johnson Leet, Jim and his older sister, Margaret, grew up on the Leet family farm. He met his future wife, Jean Stroup, at North Dakota State University. Following college his spirit of adventure drew him to the growing aviation industry and he joined Pan American World Airways.

Terrence “Terry” J. Ahearn, succumbed to pancreatic cancer on March 25, 2017 after more than a two-and-half year battle. A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Terry earned a B.A. from The Citadel in 1963 and was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force where he served for six years as a navigator, and flew 143 combat missions over Vietnam. Subsequently, he earned a J.D. from Boston College School of Law where he was a member of the law review. He then joined Humble Oil & Refining (later Exxon Corporation) in Texas, serving in various high-level positions during a career that spanned thirty years. One of the highlights of his career was the seven years he was stationed in Hong Kong, where he served as general counsel of Exxon Chemical Asia Pacific during the late ’70s and early ’80s.

She was born April 12,1934 in Bronxville, N.Y., the daughter of Helen S. Dewey and Robert M. Dewey. Ginger was raised in Darien along with her sister Jeanne (Dewey) Hart and her brothers Peter and Robert Dewey. She was a graduate of Pine Manor College in 1955.

She is the daughter of the late James “Bull” Viteretto and Rose Marie DePiro. Rita worked as a hairdresser for CCB Haircutters. She is survived by her son David Ritch and daughter Kelli Ritch.

Joyce Brunnemeyer Palmer of Wallingford passed away peacefully on March 21 at the age of 86. Joyce was born on July 4, 1930 in Aurora, Ill., the daughter of John Emil and Pauline Brunnemeyer. A dancer, artist and performer from a young age, Joyce was a graduate of West Aurora High School and the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. While at the university, Joyce was a member of the Marshall Fields Fashion Board. Joyce was a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Jane Spokesfield Ayer Hamilton, daughter of the late William and Audrey Spokesfield died peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the age of 79 after a valiant battle with cancer. Jane was born October 7, 1937, in Fall River, Mass. She was raised in Darien and left Darien to attend Colby College. She later returned to town after marrying David Ayer to raise their three daughters. She was very active in the Darien community, serving as a deacon at the Noroton Presbyterian Church for many years.

Carol Ruth Lombard Lutz, a resident of Greenwich for more than five decades, died Monday, March 6 at her home in Mystic at age 86. All of us are unique, but some are unique in a unique way. Carol was extremely intelligent, skipping grades and graduating from St. John’s University by age 19 in 1950. Trained by Jesuits in philosophy (and chemistry), she continued to read, question and discuss theology and politics until almost the end.
