Along with the normal thefts from unlocked vehicles overnight, 10 thank-y0u cards were taken from a mailbox sometime overnight from Monday to Tuesday, Oct. 8 to 9 — all but one in the same area of town. The thefts, all reported Tuesday morning, occurred on Middlesex Road, Noroton Avenue and Edgerton Street. A locked vehicle in the same driveway as one of the thefts was untouched, police pointed out. Also: Darien police also report that during the past week Darien police responded to 10 motor vehicle accidents, of which three involved minor injuries.

Across town, Darienites who didn’t lock their car or sport utility vehicles overnight found out between about June 14 and the early morning of June 19 that the vehicles had been entered overnight, police said. Sometimes items were taken, and on Alpine Lane, where there was a report of suspicious males early one morning, an SUV stolen from Stamford was found not far from where other vehicles had been entered. Alpine and Edelweiss Lanes, Monday to Tuesday
Two of the vehicles were entered on Alpine Lane or Edelweiss Lane overnight from Monday to Tuesday, June 18 to 19. That’s the same area where two vehicles were entered overnight from the previous Friday to Saturday (among 10 entered across town that night). In the previous cases, one vehicle was on Echo Drive, the other on 7 Alpine Lane — right next door to one entered at 5 Alpine Lane overnight on Monday to Tuesday.

Ten unlocked vehicles were entered by thieves overnight Friday to Saturday in two areas of town, and two vehicles were stolen in each area: One area is south of St. John’s Cemetery; the other is on streets off of West Avenue near downtown Noroton Heights. The vehicles were all parked on side streets, not main roads leading to those streets, although some of the streets intersected only with main roads. In one case, police said, a victim’s surveillance camera, which monitored an entrance to the house near the doorbell, had captured some images:

It showed a light-colored sedan pass the house at 11 Lynn Ct. several times.

Darien police say a woman told them Wednesday not only that she had not locked her car when she parked at Stony Brook Park on Ledge Road, but that she’d left her purse in it — containing cash totaling $12,000. The purse and the money were gone when she got back to the car, she told police. Here’s how police described what she told them:

At about 4:30 p.m., she parked her blue 2015 Subaru XV in the small lot at the park, then left. When she got back to the car at about 5:40 p.m., her purse, left on the front passenger seat, was gone. Along with the money, there were several credit cards, also gone.

Slew of UNLOCKED Vehicles Entered Overnight in 3-Block Area of Noroton Heights

Several thefts were discovered on Friday from 17 unlocked cars and sport utility vehicles entered overnight  — 13 on Allen O’Neill Drive and four more on Herman Avenue, two blocks to the east. The 17 vehicles were parked outside nine homes on Allen O’Neill Drive and two homes on Herman Avenue. Most of the vehicle owners in that Noroton Heights neighborhood told police they didn’t find anything missing, and the list of items looted from the vehicles is pretty short: A wallet (with an unknown amount of money in it), a dart set valued at $160, a Dunkin Donuts gift card, a Macy’s store card. Vehicles reported as having been entered but with nothing stolen from them usually have items from the glove compartment or center console strewn about inside or are found with doors left ajar. After police were notified early Friday morning by one of the victims who found items taken from her sport utility vehicle, police canvassed the neighborhood and quickly found many other cars that had been entered.
