Police: Newspaper Delivery Driver with Suspended License Hits Vehicle in Driveway

A newspaper delivery driver whose driver’s license was suspended struck a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house on West Avenue last September, and on Sunday he was arrested on a warrant, police said. Darien police gave these further details, including accusations not proven in court:

When police investigated the accident, they found out that the driver, Manuel Condo-Rocano, 39, knew he had struck the parked car but failed to report the matter or contact police. Police applied for an arrest warrant, which was granted, and on Sunday Stamford police informed Darien that they had Condo-Rocano in custody. Condo-Rocano, a resident of Myrtle Avenue in Stamford, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and evading responsibility. He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear April 12 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Woman Injured in Motor Vehicle Accident, Six Other Accidents in Darien Last Week

A 56-year-old woman was injured in a traffic accident Tuesday, March 28 when she failed to grant the right of way to an oncoming vehicle and caused a collision, Darien police said. The accident, one of seven last week, took place at 4:06 p.m. at the intersection of Camp Avenue and Greenwood Avenue. The woman, a Stratford resident, received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. She was ticketed for failure to yield while making a left turn. The other driver wasn’t injured.

Update, Feb. 9 — Darien police have released more information on a Jan. 30 traffic accident in which, police say, a New Canaan man turning from Hollow Tree Ridge Road onto West Avenue just before 5:40 a.m. struck a Darien woman. Police on Monday gave this further information, including accusations not proven in court:

It was still dark when the New Canaan driver, 51, was driving south on Hollow Tree Ridge Road when he turned his 2003 Acura MDX left onto West Avenue. He said he didn’t see the woman.

Man, 27, Hospitalized After One-Car Accident on Middlesex Road

A 27-year-old Darien man remains in a hospital after his car left the driveway of St. Thomas More Church on Sunday, Jan. 22, then hit a fence and a utility pole a little further south on the street, Darien police said. Police gave this further information:

A witness told police that at about 4:15 p.m., the car, a white 2008 Saturn, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the parking lot driveway of the church at 374 Middlesex Road before turning left onto Middlesex Road. A 30-foot section of a fence was taken down when the car crashed into it.
