An Evening Under the Stars Gala to Benefit the Darien Arts Center

The Darien Arts Center invites the community to support its first-ever gala fundraiser, An Evening Under the Stars, on Saturday, June 24. The cocktail reception will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the DAC’s Weatherstone Studio and Garden at 2 Renshaw Road, behind the Town Hall. The benefit will feature live entertainment from Lew and Mary Green’s Ragtime Evolution, as well as cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a raffle. Proceeds from An Evening Under the Stars will benefit the DAC, which relies solely on donations, ticket sales, tuitions and grants for funding. Over 6,000 individuals participate in programs and attend performances at the DAC annually, with over 1000 students from toddlers to seniors taking classes in dance, visual arts, music, theatre, and martial arts.

Proceeds from An Evening Under the Stars will benefit the DAC, which relies solely on donations, ticket sales, tuitions and grants for funding. Over 6,000 individuals participate in programs and attend performances at the DAC annually, with over 1,000 students from toddlers to seniors taking classes in dance, visual arts, music, theatre, and martial arts. DAC outreach programs include partnerships with the Darien Library, Darien Nature Center, Atria, Maplewood, Darien After Schools Program and Overtime Athletics.

The 58th Darien Art Show and Sale

The 58th Darien Art Show and Sale is being held in the DAC Weatherstone Studio from Saturday, June 3 through Saturday, June 10, from noon to 5 p.m. daily. Cash awards will be given in multiple categories to all ages and the winner of Best in Show will be given a solo exhibit in the Town Hall in the spring of 2018. Admission to the show is free and artwork is available for purchase. Darien Rowayton Bank is corporate sponsor of the Art Show and Sale. ‘Baby’ — Musical on Daren Arts Center’s Stage

DAC Stage is proudly presenting Baby, the musical, by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire. The spring production is directed by Carin Zakes and produced by Nova Hall, with musical direction by Dwayne Condon. Performances are on April 21, 22, 28, 29 and May 5 and 6 at 8 p.m., and April 23 and 30 at 2 p.m. in the DAC Weatherstone Studio. Audiences won’t soon forget this story that examines how parents-to-be experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, as well as the desperate lows and comic highs that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby. Three couples work their way towards parenthood under three very different circumstances.

Pic Darien Parent/Child Smartphone Photo Workshop at Darien Arts Center

A parent/child smartphone photography workshop is being offered at the Darien Arts Center on Feb. 18; from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn how to create beautiful smartphone photos that consider the basic rules of photography and composition. Sam Morrow, professional artist and instructor, will lead the workshop that focuses on composition, color and lighting using smartphone photography. Morrow holds masters degrees in Fine Art from both Ohio State University and the Royal College of Art in London. He currently teaches at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Greenwich Art Society, Rowayton Arts Center and Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan.

Auditions for DAC Stage Spring Musical, Baby

Auditions for the DAC Stage production of Baby, by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire, are being held on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 6. p.m. and Monday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m., with callbacks on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 8:30 p.m. in the DAC Weatherstone Studio. Several adults, ages 18 and older, need to be cast for the production, which will run on weekends from April 21 through May 6.
