Stew Leonard’s store in Norwalk can have groceries that you order delivered to your door in as little as an hour, the supermarket chain has announced.
Stew’s grocery delivery service joins the services already available in Darien from Whole Foods Market, FreshDirect.com and Stop & Shop.
The store has an arrangement with Instacart, which will shop for you in a Stew Leonard’s store and deliver the groceries or other goods to your door in an hour or afterward at a set time that you can schedule.
You just have to be within a 30-minute driving range of a Stew Leonard’s store. For Darien, the closest one is in Norwalk.
You can have “free” delivery for up to a year if you sign up for the program before Feb. 1, 2018, according to the company, although the Stew Leonard’s website also says you’ll pay a higher price than shoppers in the stores do for the items that you want delivered:
[W]e do add a price increase to cover the cost for the Instacart service to shop your order in the store.
In addition, Instacart charges a delivery fee (optional, preset at 10%) to cover the cost of having your favorite Stew’s products delivered to your door.
Just use the code stewsexpress when signing up online. The free delivery applies to orders over $35 for up to a year.
After the free trial, Instacart delivery costs $5.99 on orders of $35 or more.
According to the Stew Leonard’s website:
Customers can also become Instacart Express members to continue getting free delivery once the trial has ended. Instacart Express members pay $14.99 a month or $149 a year for unlimited, free same-day delivery.
You won’t be able to order everything at the store through the delivery service, according to the supermarket:
Customers will be able to order an assortment of their favorite farm fresh foods for delivery to their home or office. (Alcohol, catering orders, lottery tickets, gift cards, hot/cold buffet, Christmas Shoppe and Stew’s Garden Center items are not included.)
