Darien police are investigating at least eight more motor vehicle burglaries that occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday, within about a mile of the Noroton Heights Railroad Station, police said.

All of the vehicles were unlocked, a police spokesman said.

Police did not have details of the latest entries into vehicles, but said more information should be announced soon. Over the past four months, 17 motor vehicles were entered.

Darien Police Lock Your Car Every TimeMost of the thefts were from vehicles parked in driveways on Miles Road, the southern end of Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Outlook Drive. Some occurred on William Street, and another was on Charles Street, according to a police spokesman.

A typical motor vehicle theft in Darien occurs with unlocked cars, usually overnight. Typically, coins from the center console are stolen, along with wallets left in cars, GPS devices and sometimes electronic devices. Police have not yet released information on what was taken.

Police did have information on two other recent thefts from motor vehicles at a home on Patton Drive. Both thefts happened overnight from Wednesday, Aug. 12 to Thursday, also to unlocked vehicles:

  • A 1998 Saturn SWZ parked the car at 8:30 p.m. and at 7:30 the next morning found the driver’s-side door not closed all the way and items out of place inside. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
  • Also at the same house, a Chevrolet Impala was entered. Coins were missing from the center console, but the owner didn’t know how much of the money had been taken.
