A report to police of a woman lying down on a sidewalk near the intersection of West Avenue and Edgerton Street led to police questioning a woman who was at the scene, but apparently not lying down when police came by, according to a spokesman for the department.

Police described what happened with this account:

The call came in at 1:32 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The woman, a Darien resident in her early 50s, told police she had not been lying on the sidewalk. She had stopped and was just looking down, she said.

When she identified herself to the police officer, the officer looked to see if there was a warrant for her arrest — and there was, for second-degree failure to appear in court on a disorderly conduct charge.

The woman was taken into custody and held on $5,000 bond. She went to state Superior Court in Stamford the next day.
