Register for Bridge Classes at the Darien Community Association

The Darien Community Association is offering three bridge classes starting in November.

Bridge 2

Building upon the concepts in Bridge 1, this class focuses on bidding methods and play of hand. Prerequisite — Bridge 1, or a basic understanding of the game. Instructor Meredith Dunne.

Bridge 2 will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. for six dates: Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, Jan. 10, 17, and 31.

Course fees are $180, or $150 for DCA members. Prepayment is required, and registration closes at noon on Friday, Nov. 25. A minimum number of prepaid students is necessary to run the class, with a maximum of 8 students. Registration is available online at the DCA website or by contacting the DCA directly at info@dariendca.org or 203-655-9050. Classes are held at the DCA at 274 Middlesex Road in Darien.

Bridge Supervised Play

This will be a one day class with supervised play and hands covering the following topics: Slam Bidding, Stayman, Jacoby 2NT, Overcalls, Negative Doubles, Take out Doubles, Michael’s Cue Bid and Unusual 2 NT. Instructor Joan Bergen.

Bridge Supervised Play will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Course fees are $30, or $25 for DCA members. Prepayment is required, and registration closes on Monday, Dec. 5. A minimum number of prepaid students is necessary to run the class, with a maximum of 8 students. Bridge 6

This class is designed for people who already know how to play bridge but want to improve or update their bidding. This class will cover Defense, and will use the book Defense in the 21st Century from the ACBL series. Participants should purchase the book prior to the first class. Instructor Joan Bergen.

Bridge 6 will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for six classes on Jan. 3, 10, 24, 31 and Feb, 7, 14.

Course fees are $180, or $150 for DCA members. Prepayment is required, and registration closes on Monday, January 2nd. Instructor Joan Bergen is a long-time Darien resident and Bridge Life Master who, after studying bridge intently for 8 years, is driven to teach others. Students will benefit from Joan’s enthusiasm and love for the game that she describes as both a great way to meet people, and a great activity to keep the mind sharp. She’s developing quite a following!
