Police said a 52-year-old woman spit in the face of another woman on a bus in Darien and later told police the two had been in an earlier dispute; the victim said she’d never seen the other woman before.

Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, the victim said, she was sitting on a transit bus near the intersection of the Post Road and Hecker Avenue when a woman, a total stranger, walked past her and spat on her, hitting the victim’s face and shirt.

The victim said she had no idea why, since she had never had any interaction with her before, in any way.

The bus driver pulled over the bus and called police.

The suspected expectorater, a Stamford resident ,said she had been “attacked” (but not physically, she said) by three males and a female the night before in Stamford. She had not reported the matter to city police.

The woman said she believed the victim was the woman from the earlier incident, and that the victim had been using her cell phone to take pictures of her. She admitted that she spat on the woman.

The Stamford woman was issued a misdemeanor summons charging her with breach of peace. She was told to appear Monday, July 10 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
