Darien Police released this statement on the arrests of two men, Joshua Sanchez of Ansonia and Roberto Cales of Seymour, both 24, on an accusation they were selling heroin in Darien.
Here’s the news release:
Over the past several weeks, the Darien Police Department Selective Enforcement Unit (S.E.U.) developed information involving the delivery and sale of heroin in the northwest section of town.
From Jan. 1 to July 31, 2015 there have been twenty-eight (28) confirmed heroin related overdose fatalities in Fairfield County. That number does not include the dozens of non-fatal heroin related overdoses that have occurred in our area as well.
Investigators determined that during the evening hours of Aug. 20, 2015, a subject identified as Joshua Sanchez, DOB 11/[…]/1990, would be coming from the Waterbury area to Darien for the purpose of selling heroin to local residents.
Selective Enforcement Unit officers along with detectives, undercover officers, and a K-9 Unit set up surveillance in the 500 block of Hoyt St. (Rt. 106), in close proximity to the Meritt Parkway (Rt. 15).
Shortly after 11 p.m., officers observed a vehicle being operated by Sanchez traveling south on Hoyt Street. The vehicle was also occupied by a second unknown male. A traffic stop was then conducted in the area of Leed’s Lane and both Sanchez and his passenger were detained. The passenger was identified as Roberto Cales, DOB 11/[…]/1990.
Sanchez was found to be in possession of one hundred ten (110) bags or wax folds of heroin, and $255 of U.S. currency. Cales was found to be in possession of 4.9 grams of marijuana. Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to Darien Police Headquarters for booking. Sanchez and Cales were charged as follows:

· Possession W/Intent To Sell
Roberto I. Cales
DOB November […], 1990

Both subjects are previously convicted felons with past narcotics history and were issued $50,000 bonds. After posting bonds, both parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 31, 2015 at 10 a.m. This investigation remains ongoing.
