Five checks belonging to an elderly woman on Hale Lane were forged and cashed for a total of $450 — but there’s a suspect, and an arrest is expected, Darien police said.
Police gave this account of the case:
A son of the 69-year-old woman checked his mother’s bank accounts and noticed irregularities, then went to police on Thursday, Jan. 19.
The woman has a home health aide, and the son also contacted the healthcare agency that employs the aide.
Police are continuing to investigate the matter and expect to get approval for an arrest warrant, with charges probably for first-degree forgery and second-degree larceny.
