An 22-year-old driver seen crossing the double-yellow line on Hoyt Street was caught with marijuana after being stopped by police.

Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At 12:57 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, an officer on patrol was traveling north on Hoyt Street near Camp Avenue. A vehicle in front of him crossed the double-yellow dividing line twice. The officer stopped the vehicle.

The driver, a resident of Mulberry Street in the Springdale section of Stamford, said he was driving home from work and didn’t realize that he crossed the dividing lines. While the man was talking, the officer smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

When asked, the Stamford man said he had a “small bag of weed” in the center console. Police searched the entire car, and the pot was where the man said it was.

The man was issued an infraction for possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana (a first offense) and was given a verbal warning for failure to stay on the right side of the road.
