A 19-year-old Stratford woman told police that a 21-year-old Darien man had run over her foot with his car during a confrontation outside his home on Pear Tree Point Road.

A Darien police spokesman said the matter is considered a domestic violence case under state law. Those cases involve relatives, family members, people who live together or boyfriends and girlfriends, and the relationship isn’t made public.

Darien police gave this further information on the matter (including accusations not proven in court):

On Dec. 28, the two were outside his home when she approached his car, an electric Ford Fusion. The woman tried to open the passenger-side car door but the man, already in the driver’s seat, had locked it.

She walked around the back of the car to get to the driver’s side when he started moving the vehicle in reverse.

At that point, the right front tire of the car went over the edge of the woman’s right shoe. The man then got out of the car and went back into his house.

The woman told police that her right foot had been numb afterward, and she believes the man had intended to cause her harm. The police report does not say whether or not woman had gone to a hospital or doctor to treat her foot, a police spokesman said.

The woman did not report the incident to police at the time. On Jan. 4, she called Darien police to report an incident that just occurred between her and the same man in the parking lot of a CVS in Stamford and told them about what she said occurred on Dec. 28 in Darien.

Darien police told her to tell Stamford police about the incident in that community and to come to Darien Police Headquarters to more about the Dec. 28 incident. She was at Darien Police Headquarters at about 1:30 a.m. and gave police a sworn statement with her allegations. When police spoke to the man, he didn’t make any statements about the incident.

Police applied for and received an arrest warrant for the man, charging him with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, and when they had it, informed him that it had been approved.

Last Thursday, Jan. 12, he went to Police Headquarters and was arrested. He was released on a $2,500 surety bond and his court date was set for the next day, as is common in domestic violence cases.

Two years ago, when the man was 19, he was arrested by Darien police after an officer tried to stop him but he sped away on the motorcycle he was riding on the Post Road, according to a news report at the time.
