For the past two decades, teenagers have been sneaking nighttime dips in a swimming pool on Middlesex Road, but after two recent escapades, police found cars parked nearby when called to the scene — so charges may be coming.

Darien police gave this account of the aquatic incidents, which took place at a location which will remain undisclosed (at least here) for the obvious reason:

The pool on the property of the residence is fenced in and has no-trespassing signs easy for trespassers to read, and there is continuous video surveillance on the property, as well, but the uninvited nighttime visits have continued, including two recent incursions on Aug. 19 and 27.

The pool, perhaps 10 feet deep, is said to be designed to look like a lagoon. The Darien police scuba team has used it to practice (with permission).

At about 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19 the pool was used without permission by more than one person, and in that incident the pool house was entered and an inflatable pool toy valued at $75 was found damaged.

In the second incident, around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, a caretaker at the house called police to say that several cars were parked nearby and the caretaker suspected youths were again using the pool.

Police arrived and saw several phones light up and several youths scattering, climbing over a fence and fleeing away. Suspicious wet footprints were found at the scene of the crime.

Although the trespassers skedaddled, those cars were still nearby. Alcohol could be seen in some of them. Police identified the owners and expect to file charges of criminal trespass and criminal mischief: The caretaker of the property has asked police to pursue charges.
