Darien Police Department just announced numerous traffic advisories for various roads in town, some of them starting Monday.

Middlesex Road: PARTIAL ROADWAY CLOSURE

The Darien Police Department wishes to advise motorists of a disruption to normal traffic flow scheduled for Monday, Aug. 8.

Middlesex Road, between Mansfield Ave (Route 124) and Ox Ridge Lane, will be closed in one direction between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Traffic will be allowed to enter Middlesex Road from Mansfield Ave. and travel westbound.  Northbound traffic on Middlesex Road (near the Ox Ridge Hunt Club) will be detoured onto Ox Ridge Lane, Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Half Mile Road in order to access Mansfield Avenue.

The detour is required as the Aquarion Water Company contractor will be installing a new water main in the intersection of Mansfield Avenue and Middlesex Road.  Residents of the immediate area, and all emergency vehicles, will have full access to the area but may encounter slight delays.

Lower Hoyt Street: POTENTIAL DELAYS

The Darien Police Department wishes to advise motorists of a disruption to normal traffic flow scheduled starting Monday, Aug. 8.

Contractors working for the Darien Department of Public Works will be commencing the installation of replacement sidewalks on Hoyt Street (State Route 106) between Middlesex Road and Heather Lane. Some delays may be encountered in the area and an alternating, one lane traffic pattern may be required on occasion as the work progresses.

The majority of the sidewalk replacement should be completed before the start of the new school year. The Darien Police Department thanks you for your patience and asks that you consider alternate routes during this time period if at all possible.

Upper Hoyt Street: COMPLETE ROADWAY CLOSURE

 The Darien Police Department wishes to advise motorists of a significant disruption to normal traffic flow scheduled starting Friday, August 12Hoyt Street (State Route 106) will be completely closed to through traffic between Woodway Road and Camp Avenue. between 9 a.m. on Friday Aug. 12 and approximately noon on Thursday, Aug. 18.

The State Department of Transportation/Metro North Railroad will be removing the Hoyt Street railroad crossing near Wakemore Stree and installing a new crossing during this time.  Posted detours will be in effect which will utilize Woodway Road and Camp Avenue in Darien and Hope Street in Stamford.

Residents of the affected area will have access to/from their homes but may experience minor delays accessing or leaving the area. Officers from both the Darien Police Department and Metro North Police Dept. will be stationed in the area 24 hours a day to assist with traffic and safety.

There will be no train traffic on the New Canaan line over the weekend and alternate bus service will be provided by Metro North Railroad. The Darien Police Department thanks you for your patience and asks that you consider alternate routes during this time period if at all possible.

Old Kings Highway South between U.S. 1 and Locust Hill Road: ROADWAY CLOSURE

The Darien Police Department wishes to advise motorists of a disruption to normal traffic flow scheduled starting Monday, Aug. 8. Contractors working for the Town of Darien Department of Public Works will be milling and paving Old Kings Highway South between US 1 and Locust Hill Road.

  • Old Kings Highway South between Post Road and Goodwives River Road will be closed to through traffic from Aug. 8 through Aug. 15. Residents of the area will be able to access their properties during this closure but motorists may be subject to some delays.
  • Old Kings Highway South between Goodwives River Road and Locust Hill Road will be closed to through traffic from Aug. 10 through Aug. 15. Residents of the area will be able to access their properties during this closure but motorists may be subject to some delays.

Leroy Ave between Post Road and West Avenue: COMPLETE ROADWAY CLOSURE

The Darien Police Department wished to advise motorists of a significant disruption to normal traffic flow scheduled starting Monday, Aug. 8Leroy Avenue, between Post Road and West Avenue, will be closed to through traffic during the daytime hours from Aug. 8 to 12.

The roadway will be completely closed under the Metro North Railroad Bridge as Eversource Gas installs a new gas main in this location. Access to the Leroy West parking lot will be via Squab Lane only.

Officers and traffic agents from the Darien Police Department will be stationed in the area to assist with traffic and safety.  We thank you for your patience and ask that you consider alternate routes during this time period if at all possible.
