Prolong the summer and enjoy the outdoor fun at the 2016 Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival.  2016-OysterFest-logo-wsponsorThe festival that traditionally runs the weekend after Labor Day will be held this year on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days.

An outdoor festival held at Veteran’s Park in Norwalk, the weekend offers a range of activities and entertainment that the whole family will enjoy.  First County Bank is the presenting sponsor of the Festival for the sixth consecutive year.

Headlining the musical entertainment this year is Sawyer Fredericks, winner ofNBC’s Emmy Award®-winning The Voice competition in 2015, performing on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Fredericks, a Newtown, CT native, will delight festivalgoers with hissoulful, contemporary folk sound.  In addition to Fredericks, a host of national, local and regional musical acts will perform continuously throughout the weekend on several stages throughout the festival area.

On The Voice, as part of “Team Pharrell,” Sawyer Fredericks emerged as the youngest victor in the show’s history at just 16-years-old. He went on to make more Voice history when he became the first artist to land 14 songs in the iTunes Overall Top 200 Songs Chart in one week

Oyster Festival attendees will have plenty of entertainment and activities to choose from over the weekend. For the third year, the Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show will perform their motorcycle high wire acts and other daredevil stunts (www.nervelessnocks.com).  Also returning is the always-popular Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show (www.lumberjackent.com). Other attractions include a Craft Beer tent with more than 40 beers and the expansive Arts & Crafts Pavilion with more than 100 artisans and crafters. Plus, an international food court, oyster slurping contest, and much more.

Kids at Norwalk Oyster Festival 9-10-16Especially for kids, family-friendly fun will be available at the Kids’ Cove with rides, games and other child-centered live entertainment. Kid’s Cove entertainment will run all weekend with circus acts, clowns, cartoon character meet and greets, music and other performances under the big tent. Sunday is Family Day with special family and children’s packages for entrance, rides and meals.

Norwalk Oyster Festival ferris wheel 9-10-16The Norwalk Seaport Association was founded in 1978 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, education and public awareness of Norwalk’s maritime environment and heritage.  The Seaport Association and its volunteers are solely responsible for organizing and financing the Oyster Festival.

In addition to the Oyster Festival, the Norwalk Seaport Association owns Sheffield Lighthouse and its volunteers maintain the lighthouse and grounds as a museum and nature preserve.  The organization also offers harbor cruises, special events, maritime education programs and habitat restoration projects with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  For more information on the Oyster Festival and for tickets, visitwww.seaport.org.
