The National Weather Service says showers and a thunderstorms are likely in the area, especially after 5 p.m., and the service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 p.m., Monday.

As of the 2:56 p.m. update, the weather service’s Darien-specific forecast for Monday and Tuesday says:

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 95. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight
Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday
Sunny, with a high near 85. Northwest wind around 8 mph.
Tuesday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 64. North wind around 8 mph.
