A 49-year-old Darien man is charged with disorderly conduct after police say he hit a boy who has been living with him for the past 18 months.

The boy, who appears to be a teenager, did not appear to have any injuries, police said.

(Under state law, police aren’t allowed to give out information on victims of alleged domestic violence, including the boy’s age or relationship to the man.)

Darien police described the incident with this account (with accusations not proven in court):

At 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, police were called to the man’s apartment on the Post Road. He was very cooperative and forthcoming, giving police an account essentially the same as what the teenager said: The two had argued and scuffled, with the man punching the teenager and the teenager hitting back.

The man had received a call from someone at the school the teenager attends and was told the boy was failing some classes and wasn’t doing school work. That Friday night, the teenager wanted to go out, but the man said he needed to stay home and catch up on school work.

The man said the teenager yelled at him to get out of his room, and the man was frustrated that the teenager has been yelling at him a lot, and the two constantly have been arguing.

At some point in Friday’s yelling and arguing, the man punched the teenager in his head, and the teenager hit him back. A small, brief fight followed, and the teenager left the apartment. The man drank some beer beforehand.

The man said that he knew what he did was wrong, but he couldn’t deal with the juvenile’s behavior. Police did not give similar details on what the boy said.

The man was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge and later released on $250 bond. His case is in state Superior Court in Stamford.
