Hot off the presses, the much anticipated annual Mah Jongg card from the National Mah Jongg League is here! How do you decipher it? Which hands and categories are updated, and which stayed the same? Are there “tricky” hands, more concealed hands, or lovely new dragon combinations?

— an announcement from the Darien Community Association

Darienite.com editor’s note: For non-Mah Jongg players, this, from the National Mah Jongg League website, may help (a bit) in clearing up what an “annual Mah Jongg card” is:

“American Mah Jongg differs from International Maajh in several ways [in part because] it uses a card of Standard Hands, against which all games are played; these cards are changed annually.”

Popular instructor and longtime Darien resident Donna Holt is at the Darien Community Association (DCA) to guide you through the changes and challenges of the 2017 card, then she will supervise play as you try your luck with the new hands.
